Lightning Travel ProgramUpdatedTuesday August 25, 2020 byFTRL Baseball.
The goal of the Lightning Travel Program is to further develop Franklin Township baseball players by developing skills that scale; swinging hard, throwing hard, and moving fast.
The travel program is a step up in competition and time commitment from our recreational program with an increase in the number of games and practices. In addition, Lightning players are expected to work on their game at home.
7U and 8U players are expected to play in the FTRL recreational league. 9U-11U do not play in a recreational league.
Teams are formed in the fall and begin indoor workouts over the winter. While each team sets its own schedule, teams generally begin play in April and the season ends in July. Teams typically play 30-40 games.
Travel teams are fielded in the following age divisions:
We will offer a 12U in 2022.
More information about the travel program can be found on our Facebook page.
The Lightning Travel Program has its own outdoor field, located at Thompson Crossing Elementary. The field has basepaths that range from 60’ to 70’ and a full size moveable pitching mound. There is also a bullpen mound and batting cage available.
During the winter, the program uses indoor space for offseason workouts.
Players must attend a tryout session. While all players are invited to tryout, not all will make a team. Being part of a team the previous season does not guarantee your child a spot on the team next season.
